Listed below are some grilled steak tips for steak lovers.

Preheating the grill is must! Preheat your gas grill on high for at least 20 minutes. If you are using charcoal the coals are ready when the are covered in white ash.

For more tasty grilled steak, choose steaks that are at least one to one and a half inch thick. Thinner steaks will dry out faster and dry grilled steak is not very delicious and this is one of the most important of all grilled steak tips.

Types of Steak Cuts:

Filet Mignon:

The most expensive cut is the tenderest. This cut of meat comes from the tenderloin. You probably won’t need a knife to cut this grilled steak filet.

Ribeye Steak:

This is also a very tender cut. Look for the marbling, thin lines of fat, that are throughout the cut. When this type of grilled steak is cooked correctly, this fat will melt adding flavor and very juicy.

Porterhouse or T-Bone Steak:

Both feature a filet side, the porterhouse has a more generous filet portion. The other side is the New York Strip side. If you like bone in your grilled steak this is a good choice.

Sirloin Steak:

Because this steak is not as expensive as the others,it also is not as tender. Your best quality choice is the top-sirloin which makes for a very tasty grilled steak.

Grilled Steak Tips – Marinade

Next, While your grill is preheating, apply a dry rub of your choice. Marinading, if you prefer, can be done a couple of hours before grilling. Your steaks that you are going to grill, should be taken out of the refrigerator at least 1/2 hour before cooking. They will cook faster and more evenly if at room temperature.

Cooking Grilled Steak Tips

Using a vegetable oil, lightly oil the grilling rack before placing those steaks on the grill. This will prevent the meat from tearing when you turn it. With the lid closed, grill on the highest heat for about 3 minutes per side. Searing your steaks first helps seal the juices inside. Use a tong to flip the grilled steak, don’t use a fork, it pierces and juices will be lost.

Now reduce the heat to medium high and continue cooking the steaks to your preference. Using an instant read thermometer will help you determine when the grilled steaks are done cooking. If you are using coals, move them to the outside and leave the middle open.

After you have finished grilling the steaks let them rest for about 5 minutes. This helps the juices to settle back into the middle of the meat and keeping it moist.
Bon Appetite, enjoy your grilled steak and I hope you have liked these grilled steak tips!

Cooking the perfect steak is easy with these wonderful tips. Learn how to cook steak the easy way!

Listed below are some of Chef Todd’s secrets for cooking a perfect steak. It’s quite informative and offers great tips for making the best steak ever!

The Best Secrets To Cooking Perfect Steak

If you’re like me, When you crank up that BBQ grill for the season it’s all about cooking perfect steak. From cooking tenderloin to really knowing how to grill beef, this rocket ship of cooking methods just leaves us with one question: how long should the meat cook?

Cooking perfect steak for me means using that summertime favorite – the BBQ grill. Achieving predictable results here can be challenging, which is why learning this basic cooking method is critical for outdoor cooking success! From choosing the correct cut of meat to deciding “how you like your steak”, grilling is simple as long as you avoid some of the key pitfalls along the way. Should you keep the lid open or closed? How do you know when to flip the steak? How long do you cook the steak? Answering these questions is the key to cooking perfect steak and knowing how to do it each and every time.

It All Starts BEFORE Cooking Tenderloin!

In cooking tenderloin, there is an important first step before the actual cooking and that is prepping! I recommend you start with a whole tenderloin (chain and all). This will save you some significant money, justifying the choice of tenderloin over a lesser cut of meat. And there it is – Step One: choose a nice steak to begin with. To get that nice steak from a whole tenderloin, you will need to do just a little bit of work. Trust me – it’s worth it.

First, you will need to remove the chain, which is the long muscle along the side. Next, remove the thick “head” from the top of the tenderloin. What you’re looking at now is a long (tenderloin) cut of beef from which to cut your steaks. Steaks should generally be portioned somewhere between 3 and 5 oz, the recommended portion size for an average adult. The size you choose is not important, but keeping all of the steaks approximately the same size IS important. You’ll want to use a scale and try to get the steaks as consistently sized (by weight) as possible to ensure the most consistent and reliable cooking results.

Do you Really Know How to Grill Beef?

Knowing how to grill beef is a simple process, but most people still go into it blindly. By following the steps, you will always be working towards cooking the perfect steak, rather than just cooking a steak until it has reached a safe to eat temperature and texture.

Start by getting the grill as hot as possible. Part of expert cooking is understanding how to maximize the process you are using – in this case grilling. Grilling is fast, intense, direct source conductive cooking so don’t treat it like an oven. Keep the lid open when you grill.

Next, take your steak and determine which side you’d like facing up on the plate. This is the side you want to have those pretty grill marks on. This side (known as the “show side”) goes down on the grill to cook first. That’s how you get those grill marks.

As you watch the steak, you will continue to cook on the first side until it is 50-75% done. Most people flip too early, but those who really know how to grill beef are patient. When you finally flip it, those perfectly branded grill marks – that will surely impress the neighbors – are your reward.

How Long Should the Meat Cook? Until It’s Done!

If you want to know how long to cook anything, the answer is always the same. We cook our food until it’s done. So how do we determine how long to let the meat cook so that it’s “done”? Now that is a better question! When we cook anything, there are some consistent and reliable things that happen.

The first cooking sign we look for is coagulation of proteins, which happens at 165 degrees. The sides of your steak will turn grayish brown, as it stiffens and shrinks a bit. This is how you observe this coagulation of proteins in your steak.

Next, at 320 degrees, sugars caramelize forming grill marks and imparting a nice steak smell. To get those cool cross-hatch grill marks, pick the steak up, rotate it a bit and drop it back down on the grill while it is still cooking on the first side. At 50-75% done, (what the French term as “a point”), you flip the steak to the other side to complete cooking.

The only way to determine if your steak is cooked the way you like it is with a thermometer. You will insert a thermometer – and ONLY a thermometer – into your steak and cook until the steak has reached your desired final temperature: 125-135 degrees is rare; 145-150 is medium and 160-165 is well done. If you gash the steak to examine the middle, you’ve released some of the moistness, which is almost always NOT what you are tryng to do.

Remember to let the steak rest for 5-10 minutes before serving so that the juices have redistributed in advance and will not run off on the serving plate.

Presenting: The Perfect Steak. YOUR perfect steak. Whatever that might be. And it could be different tomorrow. You choose.

Cooking a perfect steak can be a challenging job. Here are some of the best ways to cook a steak.

Any cooked cut of meat/beef is known as steak. Some of the popular types of steak are rib eye steak, fillet steak, sirloin steak, T-bone steak and rump steak. There are various methods of cooking the steak. Grilling, frying and broiling are considered as the best ways to cook a steak.

Remove the steak from the refrigerator about 1 hour before you cook it, in order to get the best results. While deep-frying the steaks, fry the 1½” thick strip steaks in preheated vegetable oil. It should be cooked for approximately 4 minutes each side.

Oven roasting is another method of cooking the steak. Pre-heat the oven to 450°F. Warm up a frying pan, until hot. Add a teaspoon of oil in the pan and allow it to heat. Then, gently place the steak in the pan. Sear the steak on each side for about 90 seconds. Place the pan in the pre-heated oven. Roast the meat for about 6-9 minutes.

Broiling is one of the best ways to cook a steak. In this method, steak is cooked only a few inches from the heating element. Due to direct, extreme heat, broiled steak forms a tasty outer crust, while it remains tender and moist in the inside.

One of the best methods is to grill the perfect steak. It is one of the most popular methods for cooking the premium steak. Follow these steak-grilling instructions. Preheat the barbecue grill. Coat the grill with non-stick kitchen spray, before keeping the steak. Season the steak using coarse salt and grill to desired degree for about 3-4 minutes on each side. You can use a meat thermometer to test the desired doneness. To get a perfect steak, allow it to rest for some time before serving. Remove the steak from the grill and place it in a warm place for about ¼ of cooking time. How long do you cook a medium steak? For a medium steak, it should be cooked for about 3-4 minutes on one side. Then, reduce the heat to medium and cook for 2-3 minutes more.

How long to cook steak you ask? That depends on the method of cooking. There are basically three different ways to cook great steaks. They are cooking steak in a frying pan, broiling the steak in the oven or grilling the steak on a grill. So as you can see, how long to cook steak will vary by the different cooking methods.

Steaks that are boneless and are about 1/2″ to 1″ thick should be cooked for 8 – 14 minutes for medium rare. Medium steaks should be cooked for approximately 12 – 18 minutes. Turn them only once. For medium rare steak that contain bone and are about 1/2″ to 1″ thick, cooking time is about 7 – 14 minutes. For a medium steak, cook for around 11 – 18 minutes.

Turn them only once. Remember, time and temperature vary greatly depending on thickness of cut and choice of heat source. It is recommended to use a instant-read dial thermometer to make sure it is not over or under cooked.

How Long To Cook Steak – Simple Steps to remember:

Preheat the pan, grill or oven to the proper temperature. Preheating is very important, don’t throw that steak into a cold pan or oven. Preheating helps sear the processing ensuring juices stay inside the steak.

Room temperature steak will cook faster than one just taken out of the refrigerator. Removing the meat at least 30 to 60 minutes from the frig prior to cooking is a must. The steak will cook more evenly if the temperature is raised slowly and not shocked on a hot grill, oven or pan.

Season the steak, this will indeed enhance its natural flavor. Something simple as kosher salt and freshly ground pepper will do the job. Feel free to experiment with your favorite spices. Onion and a garlic powders go quite nicely on ribeye steak.

Stable cooking, only move it when you turn it over to cook the other side. Use tongs or a spatula to flip your steak. In other words, don’t move that steak once it has been placed on the grill or in the pan. Don’t poke it or move it around. You want the steak to brown evenly, you don’t want to lose some of the those delicious juices.

Rest those steaks for about ten minutes when they are done cooking. The steak’s juices need time to redistribute themselves. See that wasn’t so difficult. Now go cook a gourmet steak and enjoy!

One of the most popular grilling foods is steak but it is easy to spoil when grilling outdoors. If you follow these 5 top tips, you can learn how you can produce amazing beef steaks every time!

Tip Number One

This one is a no-brainer – choose and use quality ingredients. If you buy an inferior quality cut from a cheap source, it shows. The meat will be tough and lacking in flavor no matter how you cook it. Buy a quality cut from a quality supplier. A good steak will be tender and tasty so whatever you do to it you will be starting from a better position. Some of the better cuts are tenderloin, Porterhouse, T-Bone, top loin, rib, top sirloin, ribeye, chuck eye and chuck top blade steaks.

Tip number two

Avoid flare-ups whilst cooking. Flare ups are caused when fat from the meat drips onto the burners and ignites, they can impart an unpleasant taste of burnt grease to an otherwise perfect beef steak. So make sure that you trim the fat from the steak before cooking; if you have followed step one, there will be very little to remove!

Tip Number Three

Turn the steak properly. Use turning tongs, NOT a fork. A fork will pierce the steak and it will lose juices from inside that enhance its flavor.

Tip Number Four

Marinade the beef before grilling. If you buy a tender, good quality steak, marinade for no more than two hours. That will be plenty of time for it to take up the flavors. If you have chosen a tougher cut or lower quality steak, you will need to marinade for longer, at least 6 hours to have any appreciable effect.

Tip Number Five

This one may take some practice before you get it right. Smoke the steak. On a gas grill, you will need to purchase or make a smoker box. Then decide on your hardwood chips for the flavour, hickory is a popular one but why not try something a little different like cedar or mesquite if you can get hold of them – talk to the guy in the store for advice. The chips will need to be soaked before use, but drained first so that they are not dripping. Smoke with the lid down for maximum effect.

And finally, I promised you five tips but here is another one for free! Use a thermometer to check the internal temperature, if you have set the grill heat too high, the steak may look cooked but the centre may not have achieved an appropriate internal temperature – 145 F is recommended as a minimum.

Good grilling!!
